TRUE Mentors Launches Largest Online Fundraiser – Giving TRUEsday & Recognizes Volunteers at Holiday Party

Hoboken, NJ – Grassroots non-profit True Mentors ends 2016 with a bang. The Hoboken specific child mentoring organization closes out 2016 with its first ever volunteer appreciation night December 1 and began a month-long #GivingTRUEsday campaign that so far has raised over $12,000. With over 69 people in attendance, including 35 volunteers as well as numerous supporters and friends of the organization, the volunteer appreciation event, hosted by Jacks and Co and co-sponsored by Amy DeAngelo of Prime Realty, the event was a great success.

Jacks and Co owner, Joe Schimmel, said “it’s a great feeling when you support the local community, especially an organization that works with kids to enrich their lives.” True Mentors honored a number of volunteers and supporters who have worked with Hoboken’s children and donated time and funds to the organization. Amy DeAngelo of Prime Realty, was excited at the opportunity to sponsor a party to recognize volunteers. “Volunteering and giving back to the community are truly what makes Hoboken a special place to live and work. I am proud to have participated in the event and help provide an opportunity to celebrate some of Hoboken’s finest volunteers.” Recognitions included those who have donated their time and energy for iconic mentoring roles, fundraising, as well as the less public, behind the scenes, volunteer positions of coordinating workshops and matching children, families, and mentors.

“Volunteers and supporters make True Mentors the amazing success that it is. Without the community support, our mentoring, internship program, and enrichment club couldn’t have the impact they do. Children can tell when someone is really investing in them and they respond in kind” said executive director Katie Eades. With only one full and one part time staff member, True Mentors is a volunteer driven organization that simply could not exist without community support. The Giving Tuesday campaign, ongoing until December 31 st , is raising funds to expand Hoboken’s only paid student internship program, create even more skills development workshops, and expand the weekly enrichment program. Please contribute to a bright future for Hoboken’s kids by making a donation at www.truementors.org/give or sign up to volunteer at truementors.org/volunteer

TRUE Mentors, is Hoboken’s only one-to-one mentoring program matching children ages 7 – 17 with adult mentors in the same community. TRUE Mentors mission is to unearth the potential of children and mentors through relationships. Our mentors become a trusted friend and champion to our children. In addition to the mentoring, TRUE Mentors offers weekly classes during the school year and a teen internship program to unearth potential in group and workplace settings.
